fs hacks canned meat

There are a few reasons why I love canned meat in my food storage and why you will too!

Why I love using canned meat in my recipes:

  1. It’s cheaper than freeze dried meat (by about HALF the price)
  2. No cooking or rehydrating required
  3. The liquid in the can is BROTH!  So don’t dump it down the drain, be sure to use it in your recipes!
  4. It works great in casseroles or anything requiring shredded meat.

  1. Thanks for the push. I do use canned chicken occasionally but don’t think of looking for beef or anything else. I do use freeze-dried sometimes but, as you said, it is fairly expensive. I’ll look around for other canned meats in our area. I just generally use fresh or frozen.

  2. I also very much like canned meat in my food storage. I also keep a 90 day supply of cooked meat in my freezer. I like using the recipes in Make a Mix Cookery for Chicken Mix, All Purpose Ground Meat Mix (beef), Mexican Meat Mix (half beef, half pork), and Meat Sauce Mix (ground turkey). They are good for about 3 months before they are used and I have to make more. I appreciate your blog so much; I use the information frequently and recommend it to my friends all the time. Keep up the good work.
