sloppy joes

I didn’t grow up eating Sloppy Joes but my husband and I have to say that my mother-in-law makes a mean Sloppy Joe!  My favorite part is that you can make it easily with food storage and have it done in 15 minutes.   You could easily use your canned or bottled ground beef in this recipe (that’s what I do when I’m in a real pinch!)  But I don’t use my freeze dried meat because it can cost over $10 a pound–I’d never buy ground beef at that price at the grocery store, so why would I use it from my food storage when it costs that much?!  I save mine for when ground beef doesn’t exist anymore. 😉  Canning meat is really easy as long as you have a good pressure canner and some good instructions.  Or if you want to cut the cost and fat, you can always extend the ground beef using lentils!  Go ahead and give it a try, I’d do half beef and half lentils.  Now that is some serious food storage!  If you’re feeling really super Mom, try making your own hamburger buns!
