Welcome to our first online class!

We’re so happy you could join us and learn some new ways to use food storage, get prepared and to share it with others.  If you have any questions, please leave them as a comment and we will be sure to answer them.

IDEAS FOR TEACHING OTHERS:

We hope this class has inspired you to get a little more prepared and to use more of your food storage. As we see it, one of the greatest reasons to have a food storage is ultimately to be able to help others. We are put here to make the world a better place and so we encourage you to give back by teaching neighbors, friends and communities what you have learned. So please feel free to use our handouts or any of our ideas as you teach others and get them excited about being prepared.  Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  1. Get friends together to one (or all) of these items at your house.
  2. Pass along our handouts of instructions to make these three items.
  3. Show how to make one of these at the beginning of one of your church gatherings.  It only takes 5 minutes.
  4. Share the link to this class on Facebook or through E-mail.

Be sure to download the handouts before you leave!

  1. RE: instructions for the Friendship Brownie Mix in a jar possible need editing

Both pages of instructions have titles that show “with powdered eggs”.

The second page for use with whole eggs instructs using the mix with 3 eggs, 1/3 cup water, and 1 tsp. vanilla. However, the original recipe page says to “be sure to omit the water on the instructions for use and instead add 3 eggs”. Do you also omit the 2/3 cup oil?

Thank you for all your helpful recipes and handouts. I look forward to making the brownie mix for the holidays.

  2. Thanks for the great video – looking forward to more 🙂 We’re definitely going to try the soup and brownies!
Did notice your row of jars under the cupboards – spices? There are lots of jars – can’t all be spices… 🙂 Tell us some time in a post or a quick video what you have there – interested to do something similar for my wife. We’ve been wanting to do a shelf high on the wall throughout the house to store jars of canned food – the good looking fruits and veggies 🙂

    Thank you!
    Jason

Lol….actually those are all spices and herbs for cooking. Have I mentioned I like to cook? I got that whole ensemble from IKEA. I super love not having to dig in a cupboard for the spices I need! Send us a picture of your shelf for canning jars. That could be really cool!

  3. Thank you, I loved this video and your ideas and helps. Are you two related?

    1. Author

Ha ha. No we aren’t related. It’s sort of a long story how we met but Debbie had a great website from all of her teaching in California so I wrote her to see if I could use some of her material on my old website. It turned out she was going to be in Utah visiting some family and asked if she could meet me because she had also been following my blog. It was like two old friends reuniting! We spent the whole day (it was only supposed to be an hour) talking, chatting, and bonding over food storage. Lol. That’s always how great friendships are formed, right?

  4. Loved the video so much, I ended up at Home Depot buying rocks and potting mix. I have four little gardens sitting on my kitchen window …THANK YOU!

  5. Thank you so much for the video and recipes. I have missed you Crystal and am so happy you are back.
I have a question that has nothing to do with the video. I love the spice racks? all under your cabinets. How about giving us some instructions on those. What did you use?

Ha ha! I should do a post on this! It’s super easy and well worth it!

  6. I’m assuming for the Zuppa Tuscano, that it is 1 cup of dried minced onions. Also, where do you buy your dried diced potatoes, what brand? Thank you for years of help and information.

    1. Author

It’s been corrected…sometimes pdfs do crazy things, lol! It’s only 1/4 cup dried minced onion. Dried potatoes are sold by pretty much all the companies…just get the best price.

  7. What is the shelf life of this jar? Also, if I added an oxygen absorber on the top could it store longer? Thanks so much for all your ideas! Can’t wait for the book

  8. I trialed the Zuppa Tuscano tonight. I used some frozen ingredients. And I Halved the recipe, as there were only 4 here tonight. I used 2 cups of frozen spinach, which was perfect! I just used 1 1/2 cups of plain frozen hash brown cubes, which I would increase to 2 cups next time. Sweet ground sausage was on sale, 2 for one, so I bought 2 packs, good price. I sautéed one pack (12 oz), which was perfect. I left the pepper flakes at 1 tsp, as my husband is a spicy guy, as is my stepson, and they liked that. I’m going to do 3/4 tsp next time. And I added some oregano.
I did have my Emergency Essentials powdered milk!
Everybody loved this! It is a “go”. Now I will buy the dehydrated ingredients, enough to make 10 jars.
Question for you ladies: how shelf stable is this? And would using an oxygen absorber promote shelf life?
    Thank you!

  9. This was great. Really enjoyed the video.

I would like to see more meals in a jar for single/2 servings as I live alone. Any ideas? or should I just take a recipe that makes 4 servings and cut it down?
