Debbie has been talking to me about Gossner’s shelf-stable whipping cream for years!  I didn’t believe all of the things she was tell me like it was cheaper than store bought cream and that it tasted good.  (If you want the full scoop, be sure to read our review HERE)  Anyway, it led me to a lot of experimenting and I just had to share what I learned!  The truth is, that I feel spoiled having cream around all of the time.  I can make my own REAL ice cream now straight from my food storage. (Remember how most ice creams these days have so many other ingredients besides cream that it can’t even be called ice cream?!  That’s right, if you look closely most “ice creams” are actually frozen dairy desserts and they are full of all sorts of crazy ingredients!)  I can even make my own butter and as a happy residual have buttermilk to make unbelievable buttermilk pancakes.  And I have finally have cream around when I need it to make those decadent Fall creamy soups.

Now, the other thing you can do this Thanksgiving is make your own butter!  You know, the classic give the kids some whipping cream in a shakeable container and let them make the butter for their Thanksgiving feast?  Yep, Gossner’s shelf-stable cream does that too!  And of course, you can also use your mixer to do the same thing.  The “fresh churned” butter taste, just can’t be beat!

LEMON ALFREDO

This delicious alfredo recipe tastes a lot like one of my favorite Olive Garden dishes.  Plus, lemons are in season right now and should be a decent price at your grocery store!  It’s a straight forward, delicious recipe that will please even your pickiest eaters!

PANCAKES

Real buttermilk works best in this recipe.  Sometimes when I use the Gossner’s shelf-stable cream to make butter, I use that leftover liquid that remains after the butter forms as the buttermilk and it works great!

  1. I wanted to mention that I contacted Gossner’s to check availability in Alaska. Unfortunately it has to be ordered. I placed an order for 12 qts from Diversified. Assuming nothing unforeseen happens I will get to try this at about $2 a qt cheaper than Darigold whipping cream. Thanks so much for taking the time to try out the recipes. When exchanging emails with Gossner’s they let me know that they also sold under Trader Joe’s under their label in 8 oz size. This might open up options for your other readers, unfortunately we also do not have a Trader Joe’s. I really look forward to trying the ice cream and butter. Along the same vein as Gossners cream, a shelf stable alternative to sour cream is Carnation Media Crème + 1 – 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar. Same concepts as adding lemon juice to milk to make buttermilk. I wonder what Gossners would do if you added some lemon juice to it? I just thought I would share. Love your blog.
