MARCH IS FOR MIXES! Learn how to make some of your favorite mixes right at home!

I hope you know last month was all about food storage cakes and included homemade cake, brownie and muffin mixes! They became so popular and were so requested that I’ve decided to do mixes all during this month as well! So spread the word and [pinit], facebook it, and share it!

Does your family like those Quaker Instant Packets of Oatmeal? Then they will love this!  It’s the same idea and your family can even make their very own flavors!  Yeah, you heard me…you could actually make Oatmeal fun again (was it ever fun?…oh well….it is now!)  This is actually one of my very first posts and videos but since this month is all about Mixes with Food Storage-it is definitely worth revisiting to make sure everyone has seen it!  I discovered it on the new cans for oats at the cannery and decided to try it. It is the BEST oatmeal I’ve ever tasted!!! It takes more ingredients than just oatmeal, salt, and water so watch this video on how to minimize the mess and time it takes to make this for your family each morning. Your kids can make single servings or you can double (triple or quadruple) the the measurements and make it on your stove for your entire family. If you’ve sworn off oatmeal or love it just as much as I do…this recipe is for YOU!!

MAKING OATMEAL FROM YOUR HOMEMADE OATMEAL MIX

(Makes 1 serving)
1/2 C. Oatmeal Mix (I know I said 1/4 C. on the video, I meant 1/2 C.)
1 C. Water
Small handful of Raisins (Optional) You could also use dehydrated apples from the cannery just break them into smaller pieces
Mix Oatmeal mix and raisins (or other dehydrated fruit) with water and microwave for 2 minutes. If you need to make more of this for a larger family, simply boil the water first in a pot on the stove and then stir in the oats and let sit for 1 minute.

  1. I love oatmeal and like this idea of making batches of it.  Thanks!

  2. That is an awesome handout! Thank you! And … yes … I have pinned you 😉

  3. My family loves oatmeal. This will make my mornings a breeze. You could also add cinnamon and cannery apples or freezed dried blueberries, raspberries or strawberries. YUM! Also, on the sugar thought-my family has a lot of diabetics. You could easily add the same amount of whey sugar. It has 1/4 the calories of regular sugar and is totally natural. I’m so excited. Thank you so much for this idea and for the inspiring handout. You are the best!

  4. Quick question. What type of oats should I use or does it matter? I’ve just recently realized there is something called Quick Oats. I typically just buy the regular old oats, but I have found recipes call for the quick kind. Does it matter with this recipe?

    1. I’m not sure I cook regular oats the same way but you may want to try it out first.
