So what can the Muppets teach us about being prepared?  Well in an emergency you may want to make sure you have your paper towels! Well…and paper/plastic plates, utensils, and cups!

WHY HAVE PAPER GOODS FOR AN EMERGENCY?

Why?  Well if you have a limited water source you’re not going to want to waste it on washing dishes (you know, in a short term emergency setting).  Plus, they are great to have on hand in case the dishwasher breaks, for a picnic, when your child is sick and wants to be held all day, or you want a night free from dishes (you deserve it every once in a while!)  We actually do restaurant nights at home where I cook a fun meal like from a restaurant but we eat it on paper plates because, let’s be honest, half the fun of eating out is NOT having to do dishes!

A GREAT TIME TO STOCK UP IS NOW!

So watch for the sales, these will be going on sale with the holidays coming up and stock up for your next emergency, whether it is of the every day variety or the natural, you’ll be prepared!

  1. It’s funny that you bring this up, because I have been storing these sorts of things for years!  Yes, they definitely come in-handy on those crazy days and I also think it’s a great preparedness idea.  I will definitely have better uses for my water in a crisis, than for doing dishes!  I recycle as much as possible and don’t like adding sticky paper products to the garbage can, but I think recycling will be the last thing on my mind when things are difficult enough to be using paper plates!  I DO recycle plastic cups and silverware. 🙂

  2. Paper goods are also a great way to reduce disease transmission in emergency situations.

  3. I laughed out loud when I saw the title of this post!  My sister and I LOVED the Great Muppet Caper as kids, and “Here’s the paper towels!” was our favorite part.  “Wax Lips?”  “Man, I just had them!”  “Did you leave them in your other pants?”  “I don’t HAVE no other pants”  🙂
    Great advice, btw.
