Food Storage Video: Red, White & Blue Blender Wheat Pancakes

Happy 50th Post! I’m so excited! Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for all your comments, questions, and especially new food storage recipes! I’ve had such a great time putting this together for you. Now let’s spread the word. This recipe for blender wheat pancakes is SO easy and everyone can make it. Be sure to have your friends visit the blog to watch this food storage how-to video and get the recipe before the 4th of July. Let’s get people cooking with their food storage so they too can eat better, faster, & cheaper! (*Disclaimer* it has been brought to my attention that I say baking soda in the video and I mean baking POWDER…the recipe below is correct. 🙂


My very first post was about Blender Wheat Pancakes which have been a big hit and received a lot of comments. They are so delicious! I’ve revamped them into a fun & EASY breakfast to share with your family on 4th of July morning.

Variations:
This recipe works great with bananas, apples, yogurt, etc. The options are endless!

Berry Syrup

2 C. Mixed Berries (Raspberries, Blueberries, & Marionberries or any mix that are red and blue
3 T. Sugar

Mix together and let stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Blender Wheat Pancakes

1 Cup Milk (translation for powdered milk is 3 T. Milk and 1 C. Water)
1 Cup Wheat Kernels, whole & uncooked
2 Eggs (2 T. powdered eggs 1/4 C. Water)
2 tsp Baking Powder
1-1/2 tsp Salt
2 Tbs. Oil
2 Tbs. Honey or Sugar

Put milk and wheat kernels in blender.Blend on highest speed for 4 or 5 minutes or until batter is smooth. Add eggs, oil, baking powder, salt and honey or sugar to above batter. Blend on low. Pour out batter into pancakes from the actual blender jar (only one thing to wash!) onto a hot greased or Pam prepared griddle or large frying pan.Cook; flipping pancakes when bubbles pop and create holes.

  3. I just can’t get enough of this blog! You seem to know all my questions and answer them! You rock! One problem though, you bragged about how awesome dried eggs are, but we have two chickens! I guess they will be our egg food storage!(Just Kiddin)

  7. I love your blog and I am disappointed when you don’t post every day….(sorry-I know you need to have a life too!) The videos are great. I posted some recipes today using whole wheat flour and sneaking fruits & veggies into family breakfasts. We eat your recipe as waffles A LOT! They are yummy.

  22. The greatest thing about these recipes is you can taylor them to your liking. You can definitely cut down on some of the sugar if you feel it is too much. Make it so YOU and YOUR family likes it!

  24. These pancakes are INCREDIBLE. My husband is so totally NOT a fan of whole wheat, but he likes these! Even the *batter* smells good enough to eat with a spoon! I substituted a banana for the oil and topped them with blueberry pie filling (it was left over from topping your blender cheesecake–also INCREDIBLE)….SOOO good! Breakfast again tomorrow!

  26. This WILL break your cheap blender but not right away. About the first 25-30 times I made the recipe I did not have any problems. Then I noticed the batter seemed to be thinner than usual. I didn’t think much of it until the last time I made it and there were still hard pieces in my pancakes. I checked the blades and found that significant thumb pressure to the blade posed no danger to my skin. My husband thinks we can probably have the blades resharpened. Oh well.

  27. Crystal, We liked the lightness of your blender wheat pancakes! I just wanted to double check on the amount of salt (1 1/2 teaspoon with 1 cup of wheat seems like quite a bit of salt). Thanks for your enthusiasim about food storage; it’s catching!

    1. I’ve heard debates over the salt content as well. I usually use half the
      amount so 3/4 but you can use whatever your family likes.

The batter for these pancakes tastes really good, and I was so excited to make them — So what did I do wrong? I’ve made this recipe twice, but the pancakes didn’t come out fluffy at all. (In fact they were pretty heavy and rubbery.)  My family eats pancakes all the time, and they just love the ones I make from the pancake mix I buy from the local LDS cannery, but they’re not at all anxious for me to make these Blender Wheat Pancakes again which really frustrates me since I really want to start building a store of food and using it on a regular basis.

    Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong (Why they didn’t fluff up like how they look in the picture here on this blog and like I’m used to making when I use other pancake mixes)? 

    I’m really hoping someone has a helpful idea so that the idea of food storage has a better shot of being accepted by my family.

    1. You are developing the gluten too much. Try blending the batter for a shorter amount of time. Especially, if you’re using a high powdered blender.

  32. hi, great looking pancakes.  I think it might save your blender abit to presoak the wheat the night before and then blend them.

  33. I actually used my grain mill to grind the wheat first since I only have the Magic Bullet for a blender. I didnt want to ruin the blades. If I had a Blendtec, I wouldn’t have hesitated. 🙂 I also made waffles with this recipe instead of pancakes because for some reason,  I haven’t learned how to master pancakes. LOL. I added cinnamon and a touch of orange emulsion for flavor and I used your conversion for buttermilk instead of regular milk. Very easy and delicious and my 4 year old son helped! 🙂
