Several years ago, I read a personal account of a family whose power went out for a few days due to a severe winter storm. They had a couple of lanterns and some flashlights which they thought would be enough to get them through the crisis. What they didn’t take into consideration was how totally dark it is when the power is out. Adding to their dilemma, they had young children, who were who were used to sleeping with night lights. Their solution was glow sticks.

You know the kind you bend in half and they magically glow? They worked great as they hung them on their children (made it easy to find them) and their doorknobs (made it easy to walk down the hallway). The problem with glow sticks are 1) they kind of expensive, 2) they only work for one night, 3) they have a relatively short shelf life (2 years) and 4) they contain chemicals that can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and throat. I loved the idea of glow sticks, but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend money on something that I could only use one time and which might not work when I needed them. Then I found glow sticks that solved all my problems. They are rechargeable glow sticks by Uncle Vernon’s (UV) Paqlite.

These glow sticks are magical. They not only are quickly and easily recharged (and by quick I mean: 10 minutes in the house, 1 minute in the sun or 10 seconds with an LED flashlight. They gently glow all night long and can be recharged over and over and over again. If you supercharge them with a bright LED flashlight they will even be bright enough to read with for a few minutes. They are durable, non-toxic, water proof, come in 3 sizes and 3 different designs and will provide a lifetime of light whenever needed. They may not be as bright as traditional glow sticks, and they do grow dimmer as the clock ticks, but they provide enough light throughout the night to lead me to whatever they are attached to. With their cost ranging from $5-$8, how can you go wrong?

These glowing tubes of light can be used daily or during emergencies on things like: keys, kids and animals, in tents, bathrooms or cars or at home, in cars or while backpacking. Oh, did I mention there are more products?
