RECIPE PIC

If you haven’t figured it out by now, Crystal LOVES to make bread…especially from her food storage.  Now, we know Pinterest is bombarded with over-the-top (although, certainly cute) ideas for Valentine’s day, so we thought we’d throw out a deliciously SIMPLY Valentine’s recipe.  In fact, it’s so simple that it can be made from entirely shelf-stable ingredients!  If that isn’t something to love, then the fact that it’s dripping with Nutella should seal the deal for you to make these this weekend. We love Nutella because it’s a great shelf-stable spread that also satisfies our chocolate cravings.  It will store for 1-2 years but since Nutella is easy to rotate, it’s an easy storage item to have on hand!  (YES!  We not only gave you permission to count Nutella as part of your food storage but also said that you SHOULD store Nutella in your food storage…YOU’RE WELCOME!)
The technique is fool-proof ( you can catch all of the details in our video) the dough is exceptional (even though it’s hiding a bunch of powdered milk), and the cuteness factor is through the roof!  And, when I tell you these can be made in about an hour, you’ll love them even more!  Make them for friends, family, or anyone you love…just be sure to grab one before they are gone!  Your food storage and your stomach will thank you!

Nutella Heart Rolls for Valentine’s Day

February 10, 2016

These deliciously fun Nutella Heart Rolls are great for Valentine's day, a wedding shower, or baby shower.  And the best part?  They can be made with all shelf-stable ingredients.  Did you know Nutella is a great food storage item?  As long as you're rotating through it (that's easy, right?!) it's a great way to add a little sweet to the food you are storing.  Plus, the insanely easy trick for turning these regular rolls into heart rolls can be used for cinnamon rolls or any other sweet rolls.

  • Prep: 40 mins
  • Cook: 10 mins
  • Yields: 12 rolls

Ingredients

2 C. hot water

1 T. yeast

1/2 C. sugar

1/2 C. oil

5 C. bread flour (or all-purpose) (You can also do 1 cup whole wheat flour and 4 cups all-purpose or bread flour)

1/2 t. baking soda

1/2 t. baking powder

1/2 T. salt

3/4 C. milk powder

Nutella spread

Directions

1In a large stand mixture, dissolve yeast in hot water. Add sugar, oil, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and milk powder.

2Knead on low for 12 minutes. If the dough continues to stick to the sides of the bowl, add in small measures of flour until the dough no longer sticks. The dough should be soft but not be sticky when you touch it.

3Allow dough to rest for 10-20 minutes.

4Roll dough into a large rectangle, 1/2 inch thick. Beginning at one long end roll dough to the middle, then roll opposite site to the middle. The dough will look like a scroll.

5Cut dough into one inch thick slices and place on greased baking sheet. Shape rolls into hearts by pulling the dough between the circles down into a point.

6Allow to rise for 30 minutes. While dough is rising, pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

7Bake for 15 minutes or until light brown.

8Don't bother frosting or doing anything too fancy with these rolls. They are deliciously simple!
