So, I’m sitting here listening to my dishwasher swirl and whirl and I’ve NEVER been so giddy!  I realize my dishware has nothing to do with food storage…although it has EVERYTHING to do dishwasher and cupboard storage.  You know me, I have the world’s SMALLEST kitchen and the LARGEST hatred of doing dishes…so why you may ask am I so excited about my dishwasher going?!  Well, I just got my NEW Corelle Plates these ultra awesome plates are thin and don’t waste any space so I can finally fit bread plates and bowls on the top shelf of my dishwasher (leaving more room on the bottom for other dishes!) plus they fit better in my cupboard so I can finally but the toddler dishes on a separate shelf!  I’ve already packed up my bulky, chipping, green pottery plates and they’ll be going to a thrift store shortly.  However, the best part about these plates is that my 3 year old who has been excited and trying to set the table  can actually DO SO! (One night we ate on small red paper plates left over from a birthday party because she set the table while I was making dinner and there was NO WAY I was going to make her take everything off.) These plates are lightweight and made from tempered glass to reduce breaking, they don’t chip, and don’t fade and perfect for toddlers hands. And did I mention they are microwave safe? I realize the hip thing is pottery dishware and don’t get me wrong I love hip things (I’ve been known to frequent Pottery Barn) but these plates are timeless (my mom has had her set for over 40 years!) and they never go out.  Sorry for my ranting, but I had to get my excitement out somewhere…and my dishwasher is done….YIPEE!!!

  1. I like Corelle dishes. But somehow my kids do find a way every once in awhile to break one. I like that they are non chip and do last a long time.

  3. With kids, Corelle is the only way to go. Only have two kids left at home – so I was actually thinking about getting different plates. Had my Corelle for 20 years.

  4. I inherited a Corelle set from my Dad and Step-mom that was given to them in 1968. My Dad passed away 28 years ago and these remind me so much of him. It is a white set with a blue floral border. I use them everyday! I think of getting new ones sometime but then I think of my Dad and decide, NO WAY! These dishes really do last forever!!

  5. Love corelle too…looking for a new set at the moment

  6. I love my Corelle, too! I made mine a little hip a few years ago and purchased Martha Stewart Corelle-ish dinner plates to match the rest of my Corelle so I could feel like I had something a big decorative to go with my plain white set. Made me very happy!

  7. I should have bought Corelle. Instead I plunked down the money for 12 place settings of “Emma” dishware from… Pottery Barn. It is dishwasher and microwave safe and oh so lovely, but durable it is not. I’ve had it for 6 months and have already chipped 2 dinner plates and 3 bowls. Yep, Corelle would have been the better choice.

  8. FYI…the SHATTER on tile so just be mindful if you have tile floors that if dropped it would be a mess. Other than that they are AWESOME!!

  9. someday I will own the square set.

  10. Love my new Corelle with the red band around the edge and the extra special part is………MADE IN THE USA! That is getting more and more difficult.

  11. i got my grandma’s corelle when she passed on… and even though it wasn’t a full set, because it was the plain white, i can buy all i need to match. no – it’s not fancy… but it’s completely awesome for every day. I don’t think we’ve ever had one break. we love it!!! Go Corelle!

  12. They also shatter if accidentally left on a hot burner 😉 I love my Corelle plates, and it is so nice that my girls can eat off the same plates we are.

  13. Your so cute! You made me smile today….I thought I was the only one who new dishes excite! I’m 62 so I’ve been through the whole gold rim, stone….blah blah blah…… Its wonderful to see a nice young woman who is more interested in joining in the joys of life with her daughter than impressing people (who don’t really care as long as the foods good) with THINGS!
Good for you. May all your days be blessed with little happinesses.
    Linda

  14. I never cared for the Corelle tableware until I discovered the 10″ pie plate. I was searching for a large lipped plate suitable for pasta, soup, stews etc. The white Corelle pie plate served the purpose beautifully. I have since added dinner plates, luncheon plates, lipped soup plates, and small bowls. But the pie plates get the most use. Love the fact the these can all be stacked in the foot print space of the dinner plate and opens up more food storage space. There’s a Factory Outlet Store within driving distance that has some great sales when they transition from snow white to cream color at the factory. It’s an off color but a great bargain.

  15. it is so funny that you mention Corelle ware. When I met my husband, he was in his late 20’s and his townhouse was decorated in “early Boy Scout”. All he had were mismatched plate hand-me downs from his mom. I informed him that if we were going to set up housekeeping we had to have matching plates – I didn’t care if they were cheap, they just had to match!! We bought two boxes of Corelle ware – 28 years ago and now our middle daughter is using it in her grad school apt!! They do last forever!!

  16. I have a friend who swore by these…she would say that they never break…. Her mother in law had them too… So one night we are having supper club at our only single friend’s house and he had this set of dishes.

So I proceed to say “So, if I throw this on the floor, it wont break?” And she goes – “Oh, give me that” and she throws it on the floor.

Well, it EXPLODED – like a gunshot!! All our husbands came running in and she and I were laughing so hard, we couldnt breathe….

Our poor friend was finding glass shards for years after that, ever time he moved something or lifted something. They were all over the house and even down in the basement 🙂

  18. I love my Corelle too, but be careful because when you do break one (which is not all that easy to do) there will be slivers and shards for DAYS!!! pick up, sweep up, vacuum up and do it all again.

  19. Chaz is so happy that you posted about Corelle. It is his most favorite thing too. Hooray for Corelle.
