Tender, super delicious and easy to make these Buttermilk Biscuits are a yummy dinner side that your family will love.
There really isn’t anything like a tender, flaky biscuit, and here’s my promise to you…when you see how easy it is to make these biscuits, you’ll never buy those biscuits-in-a-can again. The best part? You can make them entirely with your food storage! Most people would use all-purpose flour, but if you’re feeling brave and want to start incorporating your whole wheat flour, watch THIS POST (with video) to learn how you can successfully add whole wheat flour to any baked-good recipe without even thinking about it. But the real trick is learning how to make a buttermilk substitute with your powdered milk. (You’re excited now, RIGHT?!) Finally a way to use that powdered milk! (Just kidding, there are a lot of ways to use your powdered milk without gagging, just check out THIS POST (with video) 😉
HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK SUBSTITUTE WITH POWDERED MILK
Making your own buttermilk substitute is super easy! For one cup of buttermilk, just add 3 Tbsp. dry milk powder to 1 cup water and mix. Once it’s mixed, simply add in 1 Tbsp. vinegar or lemon juice and allow to stand for 5 minutes. Or, the super cheater way is to add your dry milk powder to the dry ingredients and the water and the vinegar to the wet (or where you would add the liquid buttermilk in your recipe). Honest! It’s just that easy! But really, the best part is the money and time you’ll save by not making a last-minute trip to the store along with paying a load of money for fresh buttermilk. And, if you’re wondering, this trick is also cheaper than buying powdered buttermilk, just make sure you’re purchasing your powdered milk from the Home Storage Center (formally the LDS Cannery) for the best price and they deliver now! It’s like President Hinckley always said, the simplest solution is always the best!
