Even if you can’t stomach drinking powdered milk, you should be using it for your everyday cooking. Especially when you consider that a “gallon” of milk made from LDS Cannery milk is about $2.79. Now, this is definitely NOT true of milks you may purchase from other companies. Some companies milk would cost almost $8 a gallon (not to mention any names….*cough* Thrive *cough*). That is a complete rip-off. I know, I know, it’s hard to make it to the cannery or maybe you don’t even live by one. And that is why I’m so excited to tell you that you can now order LDS Cannery Milk online and they will ship it to your house. What, the what?! You read that correctly! I’ve known this has been coming for almost a year and they finally have it all up and running! They will come in mylar bags instead of #10 cans but no biggie….we’re going to use it every day, right?

Anyway, back to the good stuff, one of the greatest benefits of having powdered milk around is that the price is set. You’ll never pay more than what you originally paid for. So, if for some reason, milk goes through the roof you already have it beat. And for the time being you can save money using the more expensive store bought milk for drinking and the cheaper milk for cooking.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFULLY COOKING WITH FOOD STORAGE POWDERED MILK:
- Download my FREE handy dandy powdered milk conversion chart to make calculating how much water and dry milk powder you will need easy!
- Don’t mix your milk powder and water together before adding to your recipes, simply add the dry milk powder to your dry ingredients and the necessary water to your wet ingredients.
- Be careful of clumping! You may have noticed sometimes that when you add dry powdered milk to some baked items (like bread) it clumps–YUCK! The best way to get around this is to mix it with the flour before adding (or if you’re using an electric stand mixer, add the powdered milk on top of the flour. This will achieve the same result)
I’ve purchased several different items from the LDS store. Every thing always fresh and well packaged.
Seems to me ,the packs of milk would be ideal as you could drop them into a gamma bucket and keep them fresh
For a long time. Just pull one out occasionally, and transfer into glass canning jars! I use several half-gallon
Jars in my pantry just for milk and powdered tomato. (Lots of humidity down here)
I am so glad you’re back on here doing regular updates! There is another site I follow which now focuses far too much on selling product (the brand you were coughing about above). I truly appreciate what you do because I feel it comes from a place of sharing and caring.
Thanks!
