Many of you know that I gained my love for cooking from my mom. She is a fabulous cook and really instilled a love of cooking in me and all of my siblings. (I get and share more recipes with my brothers than I do anyone else!) When my brothers were younger she even cooked at a gourmet cooking school! So we definitely, have a love of the finer things in life. Funny enough, she also instilled in me a love of food storage and preparedness. She had a solar cooker when it was just a silver spray painted cardboard box with a glass window! So when my mom called me and told me she had some Brie burning a hole in her fridge, there was only one solution….SUN OVEN!
Would a Sun Oven actually bake Brie? We had to find out! Baked Brie is one of those really easy things to make that looks and tastes so incredibly gourmet. It’s as simple as placing the Brie in the middle of a puff pastry sheet, topping with raspberry jam, wrapping the pastry sheet around it and putting an egg wash over it all. It took an extra 30 minutes in the Sun Oven, but it did get browned. I don’t know why I’m always so amazed that food will brown in the Sun Oven, but I am! And, boy, was it delicious! I ended up having my parents and my sister over for a fun lunch. It was also a great way to show everyone the Sun Oven and how easy it is to use. My mom was amazed at how far the solar cookers have come. And I’ve got to say, I’m constantly amazed at what this Sun Oven will do!
