I just love that food storage can be used in ANYTHING…even fun Halloween treats. Over the next couple of days I’m going to show you a couple different ways to decorate cupcakes for Halloween. Hopefully it will inspire you to get your kids back in the kitchen with you making some yummy treats! Remember if you use the powdered eggs your kids can eat the batter with no worries about salmonella!
For these cupcakes I used a yellow cake mix and substituted powdered eggs for the “real” eggs. Some of you have expressed concern with the cake being too crumblie. After using powdered eggs for a year, I’ve discovered that the equation for powdered eggs I use (1 T. powdered egg + 2 T. water) is more the equivalent of a medium egg and if you need a large egg you should use the equation of 2 T. powdered egg + 1/4 C. water. If you ever make anything and it comes out too crumbie…don’t give up. Try it again and use the equation for large powdered eggs. I would say anytime you’re using a cake mix to use the large powdered egg equation.

Cemetary Cupcakes
1 batch of cupcakes, which ever flavor you like!
Frosting for cupcakes
Coconut died green (for the grass…you could also use crumbled up cookies to make it look like dirt if you don’t have/like coconut)
Hershey’s Nuggets (for the tombstone)
Miniature Marshmallows (enough for 2 per cupcake-for the body)
Chocolate Chips (enough for 2 per cupcake-for the feet)
Bake cupcakes according to directions. When cooled, frost with frosting. Top with coconut or cookie crumbs. Place Hershey’s nugget in side edge of cupcake. Place two miniature cupcakes in the front of the nugget and two chocolate chips with the points facing the marshmallows to look like feet.
Isn’t it so cute? It looks like a little ghost coming up from the grave…I just love the chocolate chip feet. Anyway, I hope this gives you good inspiration for spending some quality time in the kitchen with your kids this weekend! And don’t forget to check back for more great decorating ideas!

  1. I was making a smoothie today with frozen fruit, yogurt, and milk. I had already started before realizing my milk had expired…Thanks to you Crystal – I thought of putting powdered milk in it instead. Well I’m sure you already know this, but it turned out just as good! Well better because I don’t have to worry about powdered milk going bad.
