One Pot Cheesy Penne Pasta

June 30, 2018

This dish is so easy...and perfect for kids to make!  (YEAH!!) No carrying large pans of boiling hot water across the kitchen to burn themselves.  This simple, yet extremely tasty meal is sure to delight your family on those busy nights.

  • Prep: 10 mins
  • Cook: 30 mins
  • Yields: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

1 lb. lean ground beef or 1 pint bottled ground beef, liquid reserved

2 cloves garlic

1 jar (24 oz.) spaghetti sauce

1/4 cup dried onion flakes

2 cups water (I use a mixture of water and the liquid from my bottled beef)

3 cups penne pasta, uncooked

1 cup Mozzarella Cheese

Directions

1Brown meat in large skillet with garlic on medium-high heat; drain.

2Add pasta sauce, dried onion flakes and water; mix well. Stir in pasta.

3Bring to boil; cover. Simmer on medium heat 16 to 18 min. or until pasta is tender; stir.

4Top with cheese; cover. Cook 1 min. or until cheese is melted.

To be super efficient with your water, pour it into your spaghetti sauce jar first and swirl it around to get every last bit of sauce out of the jar before you recycle it.

I cooked this for my husband and myself, he said “you can make this again”. It was easy to make and tasted great.

I added a little light brown sugar to the pot to offset the acidity of the tomatoes in the spaghetti sauce. I sometimes substitute grated Parmesan for the mozzarella. Delicious, kid-friendly and EASY!
