Powdered milk doesn’t need to make you cringe, when you learn these simple tricks for mixing it correctly, your family won’t notice a difference!

Powdered milk from the LDS Home Storage Center…it’s the stuff nightmares are made of, right? Wrong! If you haven’t tried powdered milk in the last 15-20 years (and I don’t blame you) you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how delicious powdered milk can be. In fact, in a blind taste test, participants couldn’t tell the difference between fresh milk and the powdered milk. AWESOME! Plus, it’s easier than ever to purchase powdered milk from the Home Storage Center (formerly known as the cannery). Gone are the days of going and canning yourself or canning for a few hours before you can purchase (You can learn more about the new shopping process HERE). In fact, you can show up to your local Home Storage Center and purchase pre-packaged food…it really is that easy! Plus, if you don’t have a Home Storage Center located near you, you can always purchase online and have it shipped straight to your door. You heard me, it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread! Plus, when you purchase from an LDS Home Storage Center versus another food storage company, you’ll save big and I mean REALLY big. Other food storage companies cost $8 per equivalent gallon (that’s a gallon of already mixed milk) while the LDS Home Storage Center costs between $2-3. Besides, would you ever pay $8 a gallon of milk at the grocery store? I didn’t think so. So why pay it for your food storage? You can purchase powdered milk online HERE

Because powdered milk is such a vital part of your food storage, isn’t about time you learned how easy it is to make it something you’d actually WANT to drink? You can also use it to make a delicious chocolate peanut butter shake (we make this almost every morning for a great on-the-go breakfast!)

Other Simple Uses for Powdered Milk

Besides drinking your powdered milk, you can also use it in lots of different ways in your everyday cooking to save you time and money.  Some of my favorite ways are:
easy buttermilk biscuits

Buttermilk Substitute with Powdered Milk

This simple buttermilk substitute using powdered milk will blow your mind. It’s easy, cheap and tastes great in buttermilk biscuitsbuttermilk pancakes, my Mother-in-law’s famous cornbread etc. Because this substitute is so easy, I don’t store the buttermilk powder which is insanely expensive, just the few ingredients to make this substitute.
2-ingredient, no churn, homemade cotton candy ice cream

Sweetened Condensed Milk Substitute with Powdered Milk

Who doesn’t love a good dessert made with sweetened condensed milk? I know I do, but I don’t love the price tag of over $1.00 a can!! I can make this at home for $0.75 with my powdered milk from the Home Storage Center and I never have to worry about having it in my pantry! Some of my favorite recipes are Homemade No-Churn Ice Cream and these Coconut Macaroons.

Magic Mix made from Powdered Milk

Okay, seriously Magic Mix will revolutionize how you cook. You can use this simple homemade mix of butter, powdered milk, and flour to make incredibly easy white sauces (or rues), cheese dipping sauce, your own condensed soups (like cream of chicken, mushroom, tomato, etc.), creamy gravies, and even chocolate pudding! My favorite part? The fact that you can add this easy mix to hot liquids without it clumping…READ: you can add it to any soup to make it creamy and you never have to worry about lumps or clumps again!

  1. I have used powdered milk with my family for 30+ years. I also make yogurt and yogurt cheese with it. While here in the UK we don’t have the resources you have in the US, it is still possible to store food that your family will use. Rotation is the answer. Nice to have another resource. Thank you for taking the time to help new generations who want to follow the Lord’s advise.
